Here at Parkers Grove, we strive to bring glory to the Lord Jesus Christ, preaching the whole council of God, reaching the lost and dying world and teaching Christians to follow Christ in their daily lives by living unto Him and not unto oursleves.
Hello, my name is Jonathan Brown and this is my lovely wife Amanda. I was saved in 1987 under the ministry of the Ottumwa Baptist Temple. In 1999, my wife Amanda and I moved to Cedar Rapids, IA where soon after we began attending Grace Baptist Church in Marion, IA . On Sept. 11th of the year 2000, while attending a revival service I answered Gods call on my life to preach His gospel, and soon after we began serving the Lord at our local church through various ministries. In October of 2010, I received an Associate of Biblical Studies from the Rock of Ages College of Biblical Studies. I was licensed to preach the Gospel on April 10th of 2016, and on Aug. 25th of 2019 I was ordained into the Gospel ministry under the authority of the people of Grace Baptist Church.
We have been here at PGBC for only a short while but are anxious and excited to see what the LORD will do with this beautiful little country church! It is my prayer that you would leave knowing that this preacher and our people have a passionate desire to please the Lord and to also be used to help and comfort those who come through our doors, no matter what your life story may be!
The Inspiration of the Bible:
I believe that the Authorized Version (KJB) IS the verbal and plenary inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible and God-breathed and, therefore, are the final authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament are the complete and divine revelation of God to Man. The Scriptures shall be interpreted according to their normal grammatical-historical meaning. (Ps.12:6; Ps.119:89,160; 1st Pet.1:23-25)
Belief in God:
I believe in one triune God, eternally existing in three persons – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – each co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, coequal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; John 14:10, 26; 1st Jhn. 5:7)
God the Father:
I believe in God the Father, creator and sustainer of all things visible and invisible, who is true holiness, eternal power, infinite love, perfect justice, absolute truth, the Alpha and Omega, the “I AM THAT I AM” (Exodus 20:2-3; Genesis 1:1; Leviticus 19:2; Romans 1:20; 1 John 4:8-9; Romans 3:26; Titus 1:2; Revelation 22:13; Exodus 3:14).
God the Son:
I believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His bodily ascension to the right hand of the Father, where He ever lives to make intercession for His saints as our High Priest, Mediator, Intercessor, and advocate, in His pre-millennial coming for His saints and in His return to earth to reign in power and glory (John 1:14; Matthew 1:18-23; Hebrews 4:15; Acts 10:38; 1 Peter 1:19; Matthew 28:6; Acts 1:9; Hebrews 7:25; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Acts 1:10-11; Zechariah 14:4-9)
God the Holy Spirit:
I believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person who moved holy men of God to write the scriptures, who convicts of sin, who quickens in the new birth, who baptizes the believer into the body of Christ at salvation, who seals and is the earnest of our inheritance, and who indwells the believer with power for holy living and service (John 14:16-17; II Peter 1:21; John 16:8-9; Romans 8:11; Ephesians 1:13-14; 1 Corinthians 12:13)
I believe that God created the universe in six literal, 24 hour periods. I reject evolution, the Gap Theory, the Day-Age Theory, and Theistic Evolution as unscriptural theories of origin (Genesis 1 & 2; Exodus 20:11).
Man: His creation, Fall, and need of Redemption
I believe that man was created by an immediate act of God in His own image as given in the Genesis account and not by process of evolution, that through disobedience to God lost his first estate, and thereby, became a sinner totally depraved and in need of a Savior, and that since that time all men are born with the sin nature, are spiritually dead, alienated from God, and stand in need of personal redemption that is in the Lord Jesus Christ alone (Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 3:1-24; Romans 3:23-24, 5:12; Psalms 51:5; Ephesians 2:1; Colossians 2:13; Ephesians 4:18; Colossians 1:14, 21; Hebrews 9:12).
Blood Atonement for Sin:
I believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly by grace and received through faith, that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, shedding His blood on the cross as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who repent and believe in Him, receiving Him by faith as personal Savior, are thereby justified on the ground of His shed blood (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 4:4-5; 1 Corinthians 15:3 & 5:6; Isaiah 53:6; Acts 10:43, 13:38-39, 17:30; John 1:2; Colossians 2:6; Romans 5:9; Ephesians 1:7)
Personal New Birth:
I believe that in order to be saved, all men being sinners must be born again. I believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again by the Holy Spirit. I believe that this new birth is instantaneous, not a process, and that it is brought about in a manner above our comprehension, solely by the power of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God (Romans 3:10, 23; John 1:12-13; Revelation 3:20; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; II Corinthians 5:17; Acts 16:30-34; John 16:7-8; 1 Peter 1:23; Titus 3:5-7; Romans 8:33; Revelations 21:27; Galatians 5:22-23; John 3:3-8; 1 Peter 2:5; Revelation 1:6).
I believe that justification is a judicial act of God by which He imparts to the born-again believer complete pardon of sins, the gift of eternal life, and imputes to the believer His own righteousness. I believe that justification is bestowed, not in consideration of any works of righteousness which the believer has done, but solely because of his faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 3:21-25, 4:5, 5:9; Acts 13:38-39; John 5:24, 6:47; Philippians 3:8-9; Titus 3:5)
The Eternal Security of Believers:
I believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever (John 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 38-39; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8; 1 Peter 1:4-5).
I believe that the true church is the body of Christ, a living organism made up of born-again believers, including those who have gone to be with the Lord, and that this spiritual body is made manifest through the local church, a congregation of immersed believers associated by covenant of faith and fellowship of the Gospel, observing ordinances of Christ, governed by His laws, and exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word, and that its officers are pastors and deacons whose qualifications, claims, and duties are clearly defined in the Scriptures (Acts 2:41-42; 1 Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 1:22-23; Ephesians 4:11, 5:30; Acts 2:47; Colossians 1:18; Acts 2:38-47; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; II Corinthians 6:14-18).
The Ordinances of the Church:
I believe that Christ as the Head of the church commanded two ordinances: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, of which neither are to be seen or viewed as anything other than that of a picture. They are not "sacrements" or "essential to grace", therefore they are not necessary in regeneration.
I believe that baptism as taught in the Scriptures is by immersion, is not necessary for salvation, yet is the privilege and duty of every child of God to follow the Lord in baptism as an open confession of his identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection (Mark 1:9; Matthew 28:19; Acts 16:32-34; John 3:23; Acts 8:38-39; Luke 23:39-43; Acts 10:47-48; Romans 6:3-5; Acts 8:12).
The Lord’s Supper:
I believe that the Lord’s Supper is to be observed by the born-again believers in remembrance of the Lord Jesus Christ, that its observance shows forth His death until He comes, and should always be preceded by self-examination (Matthew 26:26-29; Luke 22:19-20; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:23-33).
I believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. I believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. I believe that God disapproves of and forbids any attempt to alter one’s gender by surgery or appearance, therefore it is my conviction and statement that i will not be A participant or officiate of the marriage of any relationship that is not outlined as holy in the scriptures (Genesis 2:24, 19:5 & 13, 26:8-9; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-29; 1 Corinthians 5:1, 6:9; 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8; Hebrews 13:4).
I also believe that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one man and one woman. I believe that God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. The husband is to love his wife as Christ loves the church. The wife is to submit herself to the Scriptural leadership of her husband as the church submits to the headship of Christ. Children are a heritage from the Lord. Parents are responsible for teaching their children spiritual and moral values and leading them, through consistent lifestyle examples and appropriate discipline. (Genesis: 1:26-28, 2:24; Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 6:4-9; Psalms 127:3-5; Proverbs 19:18, 22:15, 23:13-14; Mark 10:6-12; Romans 7:2; 1 Corinthians 7:1-16; Ephesians 5:21-33, 6:1-4; Colossians 3:18-21; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Peter 3:1-7).
I believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being, Abortion constitutes the unjustified, unexcused taking of unborn human life. Abortion is murder. I reject any teaching that abortions of pregnancies due to rape, incest, birth defects, gender selection, birth or population control, or the mental well-being of the mother are acceptable (Job 3:16; Psalms 51:5, 139:14-16; Isaiah 44:24, 49:1 & 5; Jeremiah 1:5, 20:15:18; Luke 1:44).
I believe that God has ordained and created all authority consisting of three basic institutions: 1) the home, 2) the church, and 3) the state. God has given each institution specific Biblical responsibilities and balanced those responsibilities with the understanding that no institution has the right to infringe upon the other. I consider it our duty to pray for rulers and magistrates, and to be submissive and obedient to their authority, except in things opposed to the will of God since He retains supreme authority over His entire creation (Titus 3:1; Romans 13:1-7; Ephesians 5:22-24; Hebrews 13:17; 1 Peter 2:12-13; Acts 4:19, 5:29; Matthew 23:10; 1 Timothy 2:1-3).
I believe in the reality of Satan, a living personality who is the unholy prince of this world, the author of all powers of darkness, that he is the open and declared enemy of God and man, and that he shall be eternally punished in the Lake of Fire (Job 1:6-7; Isaiah 14:12-17; Matthew 4:2-11, 25:41; II Corinthians 4:4; Revelations 20:10 & 21).
I believe that God has given the church a great commission to proclaim the Gospel to all nations so that there might be a great multitude from every nation, tribe, ethnic group, and language group who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. As ambassadors of Christ we must use all available means to go to the foreign nations and not wait for them to come to us (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-48; John 20:21; Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 5:20).
Second Coming of Christ:
I believe in the personal, visible, premillennial, and imminent return of Christ (John 14:1-3; Acts 1:10-11; Mark 13:34-37). This will be accomplished in two stages: First, the Rapture when Christ will come for His saints, descending into the air to catch away His waiting bride, the church (1 Thessalonians 4:14-18; 1 Corinthians 15; Revelations 3:11), Second, the Revelation when Christ will descend with His saints (Jude 14; Romans 8:16-19; Colossians 3:4; Revelations 19:14) to establish the long promised kingdom and to reign upon the earth for a thousand years (Daniel 7:13-14; Luke 1:32-33; Revelation 5:9-10, 20:4-6). Between these two stages the Great Tribulation judgements are visited upon the apostate and rebellious world (Matthew 24:21; II Thessalonians 1:3-10; Revelations 6:17).
The Eternal State:
I believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgement and everlasting punishment (Matthew 25:46; John 5:28-29; 11:25-26; Revelations 20:5-6, 12-13).
